Rapid Rise: Construction Begins on Second Floor of 10-Story ‘Lakeshore Lodge’ Hotel Coming to Fort Wilderness in 2027

A little less than two months after we first spotted signs of construction, work on the renamed “Disney Lakeshore Lodge” has now reached the second floor for the northeastern wing of the planned 10-story hotel. We’ve been following construction on the site for months now, but Disney Vacation Club confirmed that work had restarted after a multi-year pause late last month. We recently made it out to Fort Wilderness to get a new look at the rapidly progressing work.

Concept Art

In order to get an idea of what Lakeshore Lodge might look like, here’s a look back at previously released concept art for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Note that Disney Vacation Club has not released any new concept art since renaming the hotel, but they have confirmed that Lakeshore Lodge will use the exact same footprint as previously announced.

Until we get new concept art, we’re going to assume that this concept art is still valid and that it reflects the current vision of the design for Lakeshore Lodge.

Disney Lakeshore Lodge Construction

The watercraft ride from Magic Kingdom provides some good views of the current work, and as you can see, the site is buzzing with activity. There are four high-reach cranes on site, with “smaller” equipment scattered throughout. As we previously reported, Disney has permitted the use of up to 6 of these high-reach cranes during the work.

As we start to get closer to the site, we can see some of the concrete walls and pillars that make up the foundation and ground floor of the new hotel.

Turning the corner as we approach the Fort Wilderness dock, we can see that the floor of the second floor of the northeastern wing of the resort is being installed. We can see the Crockett’s Tavern structure in the distance. One thing that is immediately obvious in person, and something that I hope shows up in photos, is just how large and imposing this hotel will be. The quaint seclusion of this area of Fort Wilderness is now a thing of the past. Disney will really have to pull off some amazing exterior theming to make this hotel “fit” the area around it, and even then, it is going to be a large structure that will change the dynamics of Fort Wilderness.

Now on land, we’ll continue to move around the site clockwise, starting with a view from the Fort Wilderness dock, passing by Pioneer Hall, and finally from the Tri-Circle-D Ranch area and a bus to Magic Kingdom.
