While construction continues on whatever improvements are being made at Woody’s Lunch Box, a portion of the seating area has reopened. Unfortunately, not only does the area have no apparent shade improvements, there are actually fewer shaded seating areas than prior to the work.
Woody’s Lunch Box Seating Area Partially Reopens with No Shade
Of course, the current layout should be considered temporary as work continues in the area. The big news here is that there are no additional shade structures in the reopened portion of the seating area. Presumably, that means that there will be no new shade introduced into a dining area that is as popular as it is unprotected from the elements.
During the construction, we were really, really hopeful that Disney would address day-one concerns about a lack of shade in Woody’s Lunch Box, but that doesn’t appear to be part of the plan. It’s possible that the work was simply done to address drainage concerns in the area.
Here’s a look around the area from our visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning with a “feels like” temperature in the 20s and (ironically enough) no sun concerns to speak of. I would say that roughly 1/3rd of the seating area remains behind walls, including a shade structure in the far corner of the dining area that has been under construction for years.

If you’re looking for shaded dining, check out the temporary seating area located within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge near Alien Swirling Saucers.
