Themed Pavement Installation Underway at EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion

Guests visiting EPCOT over the coming weeks will notice that there is a new pavement project underway at the Mexico Pavilion. The project appears to be replacing some of the standard red concrete with a more themed variety of pavement. This continues some of the repaving efforts that we’ve tracked throughout World Showcase over the past few years. Here’s a look around!

Themed Pavement in the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT

The new pavement is destined for a more natural look, featuring small stones and cracking throughout. The new pavement is dirt or mud-colored, and it reminds us of a more tame version of the Frontierland or Adventureland pavement at Magic Kingdom. Here’s a look at the current progress, which stretches from the bridge just west of the pavilion to an area right in front of the pyramid. As part of the work, signage for the Gran Fiesta Tour attraction has been removed.

Here’s a before/after of the pavement style at the Mexico Pavilion.

  1. I don’t care about cracking versus non-cracking. That back area of EPCOT is notoriously HOT. I just want to see some kind of smart paving that helps keep the area cooler as we schelp through the Disney heat. If they can make smart trash cans, there must be a tech that could help me keep my cool! Then expand it to AK, which is too hot for me to tackle.
