Good morning from Disney’s Hollywood Studios where we’re getting our first look at the demolition of the Stage 1 Company Store in the former Muppets Courtyard area. The Stage 1 Company Store was a Muppets-themed store that got very little use in the past few years. Walt Disney World would only open it up for limited-time events such as the May the Fourth “holiday” or to use it sparingly for Disney Jollywood Nights. As part of the reimagining of Muppets Courtyard into a Monsters Inc.-themed land, the Stage 1 Company Store is being demolished. Here’s a look.
Stage 1 Company Store Demolition
First, here’s a look back at the Stage 1 Company Store before Muppets Courtyard was permanently closed. The building had a backlot warehouse look on the outside, merged with a Muppets-themed facade toward the back of the building, and a New York City street look on another side of the building.
And here’s a look at what we were able to see from our visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning. The demolition has begun at the rear of the store, where two Kermit statues previously stood. Views of demolition from within Disney’s Hollywood Studios are limited at the moment. Demolition will continue through the week as Disney works to completely remove the building.
As you can see in the updated concept art below, the Stage 1 Company Store will be replaced by a park-like area, opening up this corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
