Disney Removes Newly Installed Physical Gates at EPCOT’s Main Entrance

|

Last week, we reported that Walt Disney World was adding physical gates to the main entrance at EPCOT. The gates were only installed at a few tappoints, but Disney appeared to be expanding the installation. While visiting EPCOT today, we noticed that all of the newly installed physical gates had been removed. Here’s a look.

Physical Gates Removed from EPCOT Main Entrance

A week after installing physical gates at the main entrance to EPCOT, Walt Disney World has removed them. At this point, it’s unclear why the gates were removed, but it looks like there was a design or functionality challenge with the gates. The posts that the gates hung from remain in place.

EPCOT has quite a few unused tappoints on an average day, so these gates acted as a physical barrier to not only show guests that this isn’t an active entrance, but, perhaps, to also prevent little ones from accidentally running into the park.

We’ll start with a look back at the gates as installed last week. As you can see in the photo below, two gates were installed per tappoint cluster. The gates were designed to resemble the triangular skin of Spaceship Earth. The gates would add another level of barrier between guests on the outside of the park and guests inside the park.
