Spaceship Earth Fountain Runs Dry at EPCOT

Disney has drained the fountain at the base of Spaceship Earth, and it has sat empty for several days now. The circular basin sits completely dry under the three acrylic pylons that anchor the EPCOT entrance plaza. We stopped by EPCOT earlier today to check it out and grab a few photos. Here’s a look at what it looks like today, along with a look at the fountain over the years.

A Familiar Landmark, Minus the Water

The fountain sits directly in front of Spaceship Earth, between the walkways that lead from EPCOT’s main entrance into the park. Three tall acrylic pylons rise from the center of the basin. They are part of the entrance plaza that debuted its current look back in 2020, and each one has the park’s classic logo. Normally, water runs down from the pylons and pools around a round, diamond-patterned centerpiece.

Today, there is no running water at the fountain. The surrounding basin has gone empty too, offering a look at the tile and a scattering of coins that guests have tossed in over time.

There is no word on why the fountain has been drained. It’s unclear whether this is routine maintenance, a repair, or something else entirely. The fountain remains a popular photo spot for guests entering the park.

What the Fountain Normally Looks Like

Water usually runs continuously over the diamond-patterned centerpiece and down into the surrounding basin. The photos above and below show the fountain running normally on past visits to EPCOT. As you can see, the diamond-patterned centerpiece has accumulated some rust over the years.
