Trash Cans Removed from Ferryboats Following Crash

If you’ve traveled across the Seven Seas Lagoon before, you may have noticed that each Ferryboat has several trash cans on board. This is for your convenience, to help the crew keep the boat clean, and to keep trash out of the water. Here’s a look back at the trash cans as seen in a photo from the archives.

July 2020

The ferryboats would always have at least one trash can near the entry/exit pillar seen above. Now, there are no trash cans anywhere on the boats. We’re told that this was a recent change. The exact reason for the change was not communicated.

It is assumed that the change was due to the trash cans becoming dangerous during a recent ferryboat crash that left numerous guests injured. Unconfirmed social media reports said that the trash cans went flying during the impact, even reportedly pinning a child. The removal of the trash cans appears to be the first operational change that Disney has made following the crash.

Walt Disney World has not responded to a request for comment.
