Permit Outlines NEW Details for Upcoming Tropical Americas Playground at Animal Kingdom

|

A newly unearthed permit sheds some light on the expected details for a playground in the upcoming Tropical Americas-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The permit is just one part of a back-and-forth between Walt Disney World and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. While news of the playground and its location isn’t necessarily new for readers of this site, there are some new details about the expected layout of the playground. Here’s a closer look!

Permit Outlines New Details for Tropical Americas Playground

We’ll begin our coverage of the Tropical Americas playground permit by rolling back the clock all the way back to October 2024. In an article that outlined the initial changes shown in an earlier permit, we speculated that the Cretaceous Trail could become a new playground or exploration area. This was the first suggestion that the previously announced play area could go in this space.

If we fast-forward a year to October 2025, BlogMickey.com shared new details, confirming that the new playground would be located in the Cretaceous Trail area.

Permit data that we reviewed confirmed the location. Now, a newly unearthed permit attaches a visual layout of the playground in the location that we confirmed it would be located.

In the first screenshot below, you can see that the playground will be located in the Cretaceous Trail, north of the DINOSAUR attraction and east of Restaurantosaurus.

Zooming in a bit more, we can see some of the features of the playground.

In this final screenshot of the permit, we can see more details for the playground. It looks like there will be multiple slides, some climbing features, and perhaps even a snake-like element. That would be ironic given how close to the upcoming Indiana Jones-themed ride this playground will be.

Some questions remain for the playground, such as theming. As we’ve previously covered, there was no depiction of the playground in the scale model that is on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – so no insight to be gleaned there.

With this year’s D23 Expo scheduled for August 14-16, we expect to learn more about all of the projects currently underway at Walt Disney World. Hopefully, that includes some details on what to expect when this playground opens with the rest of the Tropical Americas land in 2027.
