Orange County Sheriff Provides First-Ever Drone Security for runDisney Marathon Weekend

|

The Orange County Sheriff Office have shared drone photos of Walt Disney World. Typically, there are very strict no-drone rules in place around Walt Disney World property as part of both a rule from Walt Disney World and as part of the FAA’s “no-fly zone”. However, the Orange County Sheriff’s office received special FAA authorization for the first-ever drone security for a runDisney event at Walt Disney World. Here’s the latest.

According to a social media post from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, four OCSO drone pilots provided security for the recent runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. The marathon itself happened earlier today and spanned all four Walt Disney World theme parks, along with area roadways.

Over the weekend, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies helped provide safety for runners during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, with races spanning all four theme parks.

Four OCSO drone pilots supported the event under FAA authorization, marking the first year our agency has provided drone assistance for the Disney marathons.

Drones are not allowed to be flown on Walt Disney World property without special permission. A more common, and legal, way to obtain aerial photography is via one of the many tourist helicopters that fly over and around Walt Disney World and other area theme parks.
