While visiting EPCOT recently, we stopped by to check in on some construction taking place at the World Discovery playground. This playground debuted back in 2018, and it has been a permanent fixture since then. Now, it looks like Disney is expanding the playground. Here’s a closer look!
World Discovery Playground Expansion at EPCOT
While there have been construction walls in the area for months, it wasn’t until last month that the playground closed to guests. Since then, we’ve seen some shrubs rolled into place to obstruct views of the work taking place. That said, the shrubs aren’t nearly as effective as a construction wall, and we were able to get a sneak peek of the work taking place. It looks like Disney is expanding the playground a bit and installing a low wall toward the back of the space.
In addition to the expansion at the back of the playground, it looks like crews are replacing a lot of the padded flooring. There are also some new umbrellas that should offer some more shade, along with keeping some of the playground equipment a bit cooler. Here’s a look around the space from our recent visit.
We’re not sure when the playground will reopen, but we’d imagine that Disney wants to have it operational for Spring Break crowds and the upcoming EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival.

I wish we could see if it was open on the app haha. Went a few days ago and saw it’s closed. Glad they’re expanding though
