While visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we snapped a few photos of the widespread facade refresh going on in the former Muppets Courtyard area. As you may know, the former Muppets Courtyard (MuppetVision 3D, PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose’s, etc) is being transformed into Monstropolis, the city from the Monsters Inc. movie. Here’s a look at the latest work.
Muppets Courtyard Facade Construction for Monstropolis Metamorphosis
A little more than a month ago, we spotted the first facade modifications underway at the former MuppetVision 3D theater. Since then, work has expanded to nearby facades. Now, most of the facades are being worked on as Disney transforms the space into Monstropolis, a Monsters Inc.-themed land.
Before we jump into the photos, here’s a look at concept art for the Monstropolis land under construction at Hollywood Studios.
In this article, we’re going to combine some on-the-ground photos from our visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today with some aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct, taken a couple of days ago.
We’ll start with a look at the PizzeRizzo outside seating area and nearby facades that used to house a Christmas-themed store. Of course, the biggest work to hit this area so far was the full demolition of the former Stage 1 Muppets gift shop. With that large building removed, the area has been opened up a bit, giving us a clear view of a number of facades. That said, some aerial photography support will add some much-needed context to what we’re looking at.
A lot of scaffolding hugs the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush Facade as crews strip the bricks down to the insulation. Here’s a closer look.
Finally, here’s a look at the former MuppetVision 3D facade as scaffolding rises. The brickwork here has been carefully stripped away to correspond with new theming elements yet to be installed.
Eventually, these rooftops will be covered by city facades. For now, we can see some work taking place on the existing facade structures.
