Good morning from EPCOT, where the marquee Spaceship Earth attraction has entered its third day of unexpected downtime. The attraction is not open this morning, and conversations that we’ve had with Cast Members on the ground are not painting a hopeful picture. Here’s the latest on the Spaceship Earth closure, and what we’re hearing.

UPDATE: Spaceship Earth has reopened. We rode the attraction this morning and have some photos, along with more information, in the link below. The rest of our article will remain unchanged.

Spaceship Earth Closed Unexpectedly, Rumors of Interior Damage

In our photos below, taken this morning, we can see that Spaceship Earth remains closed to guests. The attraction had some downtime issues on March 20th, and then didn’t reopen on the morning of March 21st. The attraction has been closed since then, and there are unconfirmed rumors that the attraction has sustained some interior damage.

At the front of the attraction, Cast Members have blocked access to the queue, and they’re advising guests to enjoy other attractions. When asked if the attraction may reopen soon, the indication was that it wouldn’t, but Cast Members advised guests to keep checking the My Disney Experience app for the attraction’s status.

Interestingly, the entire Project Tomorrow post-show area has been roped off. This is inconsistent with temporary closures and could signal larger issues for the attraction.

Unconfirmed rumors are swirling online that the attraction may have experienced a burst pipe, causing some damage to one or more scenes within the ride. We have not been able to confirm those rumors, and Cast Members at the attraction were not sharing the reason for the unexpected downtime with guests.

Walt Disney World did not return a request for comment about the unexpected closure of Spaceship Earth.

Spaceship Earth had a planned, multi-month refurbishment last year, but there were no substantial or obvious changes to the ride. If we learn more about the current unplanned closure, we’ll be sure to share more info. As for now, if you’re headed to EPCOT, we would scratch Spaceship Earth from your plans for now.
