Stardust Struggles Continue: Universal Extends Stardust Racers Closure at Epic Universe, Again

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that the Stardust Racers refurbishment at Universal Epic Universe has been extended again. This is the fourth time that the refurbishment has been extended. Here’s the latest on when Universal says that Stardust Racers will reopen.

Stardust Racers Refurbishment Extended for Fourth Time

Stardust Racers, the thrilling, high-speed roller coaster in the Celestial Park land of Epic Universe, will be closed a little longer. Universal has announced that the attraction will be closed through at least April 5th after a fourth extension of the refurbishment.

Stardust Racers originally closed on February 19th, and it was only supposed to be closed for a few days. Universal had previously published two February opening dates before their latest March 14th reopening date. Now, the theme park giant has extended the closure through April 5th.

The continued downtime comes at a time when Epic Universe is in desperate need of ride reliability and uptime. In a recent call with investors, Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh noted that attraction reliability is the one thing really holding them back from offering “more attendance possibilities”.

Reading between the lines, attraction downtime and guest throughput are preventing Universal from offering Annual Passes to its groundbreaking Epic Universe theme park.

If you have an upcoming visit, plan on Stardust Racers not being open. It’s unclear what is causing the continued extensions of the refurbishment, but at this point, I’m not confident in the April 5th reopening date.

It’s a shame, too. Stardust Racers is one of our favorite rides at Epic Universe, and it’s one of the best roller coasters at any Universal Orlando Resort theme park.
