The iconic Pluto’s Corner street sign, showcasing the intersection of Mickey Ave and Dopey Drive, has been installed in the new Walt Disney Studios Lot area within Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is just the latest signage to be added to the area, so let’s take a tour of what’s new!
Signage Added to Walt Disney Studios Lot at Hollywood Studios
Opening later this month, the Walt Disney Studios Lot is the renamed and slightly reimagined former Animation Courtyard. As part of the transformation, existing buildings will be decorated and designed to resemble buildings from the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California. Here’s a look at the latest signage installation, including the recent installation of the iconic Mickey Ave/Dopey Drive directional sign found at Pluto’s Corner.
Released in 1941, The Reluctant Dragon featured Robert Benchley’s mostly self-led wanderings of the Disney Studio in Burbank. This was the public’s first official peek behind the curtain of how the Studio operated. The real street sign on Pluto’s Corner (at the intersection of Mickey Avenue and Dopey Drive) was created as set dressing for the film and still stands to this day. Even though the directions on the sign are just for show, this iconic spot on the lot is a can’t-miss photo opp, and now it has been replicated for Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
In addition to the new street sign, the building that houses The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure has officially received the Studio Theater branding.
At the end of the courtyard, The Magic of Disney Animation building has received the “ANIMATION” signage, sitting under the Sorcerer Mickey hat. As a reminder, The Magic of Disney Animation will open later this Summer as part of a phased opening.
Disney continues to open up walkways as the concrete dries. We should the courtyard open up to all guests in the coming days ahead of the May 26th debut of the Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! show.
