Disneyland Finally Removes 11am Park Hopper Restriction

Disneyland Resort guests can now hop between parks earlier in the day. Beginning today, June 9, 2026, Park Hopper ticket holders and Magic Key Passholders no longer have to wait until 11:00am to cross from Disneyland to Disney California Adventure, or the other way around. The change applies to both parks, subject to capacity at the park a guest wants to enter. One requirement stays in place, which we cover below. The update marks a noteworthy loosening of a rule that has shaped Disneyland touring plans since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disneyland Park Hopping Rule Change: What to Know

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • What changed with park hopping as of June 9, 2026
  • Which tickets and passes qualify for earlier hopping
  • The starting park requirement that still applies
  • How availability could limit hopping on busy days

THE 11AM WAIT IS GONE

The change is simple. Park Hopper ticket holders and Magic Key Passholders can move between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure at any point during the day, rather than waiting until 11:00am. Disney has stated that the earlier access is subject to the availability of the park a guest wants to enter. That means that capacity restrictions can still prevent a hop on the busiest days.

This is a notable shift for Disneyland touring. The 11:00am rule forced guests to commit their morning to a single park, and it complicated plans built around early entry, rope drop attractions, and reservations spread across both gates.

Beginning June 9, 2026, Disneyland Resort guests with Park Hopper tickets and Magic Key passes will be able to cross between parks without having to wait until 11 a.m., subject to availability of the applicable park.

At this time, guests will still need to select a โ€œstarting parkโ€ for visits on June 9, 2026 and beyond.

YOU STILL PICK A STARTING PARK

One piece of the old system remains. Guests still need to select a starting park for visits on June 9, 2026, and beyond. That selection determines where a Park Hopper or Magic Key day begins, even though the timing wall between parks has come down.

So the planning step does not disappear entirely. Guests choose a first park, then hop when they like, capacity permitting. Yes, that means that you can pick Disney California Adventure, tap in, and then immediately U-turn to enter Disneyland to start your day.

The change comes as Disneyland Park Pass theme park reservation availability becomes easier to obtain.

WHEN AVAILABILITY COMES INTO PLAY

The availability caveat matters most during peak periods. On high-attendance days, the park a guest wants to hop into can reach capacity, and that would hold up a cross-park move regardless of the time. Disney has not detailed how often hopping might be limited or how guests will be notified when a park is constrained.

OUR TAKE: While we have been staunch opponents of the Disney Park Pass system at Walt Disney World, if I were local to Disneyland, I would probably be even more vocal following this change. It’s clear that the Disney Park Pass system has nothing to do with enhancing the guest experience in any way. Instead, it is simply a way for Disney to get an estimate on how many guests are planning on visiting and adjusting operations accordingly. Typically, that means some sort of yield management where cutbacks adjustments can occur to maximize profits.

That said, this park hopping change is a positive one for guests! It will allow guests to move freely between two parks that are literally just steps away. That will make it much easier to grab breakfast at one park and hop over to the other to enjoy attractions and experiences. While that seems baffling to suggest for guests familiar with the sprawling Walt Disney World Resort, it’s not unheard of at Disneyland. With Walt Disney World dropping park hopping restrictions all the way back in January 2024, I’m glad to see Disneyland finally follow suit.
