Walt Disney World has announced a special addition to this year’s Fourth of July celebration. A military flyover will pass directly over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on July 4th, part of the resort’s tribute to America’s 250th anniversary. Here’s what Disney has confirmed so far.

Walt Disney World Announces July 4th Flyover

Disney says the flyover will be conducted by the 920th Rescue Wing, a U.S. Air Force Reserve unit based at Patrick Space Force Base. Disney says the flyover is scheduled to begin at 10:30am on July 4th, weather permitting, passing over both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

Disney says the flyover is part of its celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, framed as a way of recognizing U.S. military heroes who have served since the country’s founding in 1776.

This isn’t the first time military aircraft have flown over Walt Disney World. The Air Force Thunderbirds passed over EPCOT in 2023 and over Magic Kingdom the year before, and the Navy’s Blue Angels have flown over EPCOT and Cinderella Castle in years past. The July 4 flyover continues that pattern, though this time it’s tied specifically to America’s 250th rather than a standalone appearance.

Here’s how Disney describes the event:

Walt Disney World is honored to host an inspiring flyover by the U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 920th Rescue Wing from Patrick Space Force Base over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT beginning at 10:30 a.m. on July 4 (weather permitting). This special event is part of Disney’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary as we recognize the U.S. military heroes who have served our nation since its founding in 1776.

Who the 920th Rescue Wing Is

The 920th is the Air Force Reserve’s only dedicated combat search and rescue wing, headquartered at Patrick Space Force Base along Florida’s Space Coast. The unit flies HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters and HC-130J Combat King II aircraft, and its personnel have a long history tied to the region, including standing by during NASA Space Shuttle launches from nearby Kennedy Space Center.

The wing’s mission has also put it to work much closer to home. Earlier this year, Airmen from the 920th helped rescue 11 survivors from a downed aircraft off the Florida coast near Melbourne, a reminder that the same unit flying over the parks on July 4th also flies real rescue missions along the Florida coastline.
