Universal Confirms Orlando Tourism Summer Softness, Attendance Below Expectations

Comcast held its second quarter 2026 earnings call this morning. On the call, executives confirmed that attendance across the broader Orlando market began softening in June and has remained pressured into the third quarter. That directly echoes what we here at BlogMickey.com have already been tracking at Walt Disney World, where posted wait times have shown an unusually slow summer. Here’s a breakdown of what Universal had to say, and how it fits into the bigger picture.

Universal Orlando Confirms Soft Summer, Attendance Below Expectations

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Universal executives said Orlando attendance broadly softened starting in June and remains pressured in Q3
  • Executives said Epic Universe itself continues to perform well, with the softness affecting the wider market
  • The comments echo BlogMickey’s recent reporting on Walt Disney World’s own extra-slow summer

What Universal Execs Said

On the earnings call, Universal executives said “the operating environment for parks has softened more than the company anticipated”. Breaking that down by geography, execs said “Epic Universe continues to perform well and is delivering the strong guest response the company expected”. At the same time, Universal said “attendance across the broader Orlando market began to soften in June”. That trend has continued into the third quarter.

Universal pointed to temporary factors, including higher fuel prices and weaker consumer sentiment, as likely drivers. Universal said it’s watching the trend closely. During the Q&A portion of the call, execs were more direct. “The softness affecting this quarter, continuing into the third quarter, is essentially weakness in attendance”, Universal execs said. That weakness is driven by weaker consumer sentiment and higher travel costs affecting demand.

Importantly, the execs drew a clear line between Epic Universe and the rest of the resort. Universal says that “Epic continues to do what the company wanted it to do”. It’s “delivering against expectations with strong guest response”, and “driving higher per capita spend across a broader, multi-destination Orlando resort”. In other words, the softness isn’t a problem specific to the new park. It’s an overall demand drop hitting Orlando broadly.

Confirming What We’re Already Seeing at Disney World

Universal’s acknowledgment of an Orlando-wide attendance slowdown arrives just a day after BlogMickey.com detailed Walt Disney World’s own extra-slow summer. That piece dug into posted wait time data going back to 2023. It found that June and July 2026 have been as slow, or slower, than a typical September. September is historically the slowest month of the year at Walt Disney World. Wait times were down some 6 to 13 percent compared to the same months in 2025.

Universal executives describing broad-based attendance softness in this same window is telling. It lines up with our own reporting of a real slowdown at Walt Disney World. This doesn’t appear to be isolated to one company or one park. It points to something happening across Central Florida’s theme park market more broadly this summer. Universal execs’ comments about weaker consumer sentiment and higher travel costs offer a plausible explanation for both.

We’ll continue to watch how attendance trends play out.
