Scaffolding Begins Climbing Front of Tower of Terror for Exterior Refurbishment

Good afternoon from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where scaffolding at Tower of Terror has expanded to a new section of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade. The latest progress covers the building’s left side and starts climbing up the face of the facade. We also spotted repainting on the right side of the building. Here’s a closer look!

Tower of Terror Scaffolding Expands

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Scaffolding has expanded to a new section of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade
  • Repainting is visible on the right side of the building
  • The scope and completion date of the refurbishment remain unconfirmed

Disney has not confirmed the scope or an expected completion date for this refurbishment. We will continue to check in as the work progresses.

New Scaffolding Section Visible from Villains: Unfairly Ever After

From the Villains: Unfairly Ever After courtyard, we could see an expansive new scaffolding section running up the building’s “left” side. Really, it’s the front of the building, but it appears to be the left side based on how the building sits at an angle at the end of Sunset Boulevard. The scaffolding structure sits directly below the illuminated Hollywood Tower Hotel sign and covers several stories. It wraps around window openings and decorative tile work, similar to the southeast section we documented in July.

This side of the building had not previously contained scaffolding. The latest photos point to a broader refurbishment than the single-side facade project first documented last month. As with the southeast section, it is not yet clear whether this represents cosmetic repair, structural work, or some combination of both.

Repainting Visible on the Building’s Right Side

From Sunset Blvd, we could see the same left-side scaffolding climbing the front of the building. Zooming into the right side from that vantage point, we noticed repainting taking place on sections of the pink facade.

The freshly painted areas could be seen by zooming in and cropping further. The repainting wasn’t obvious to the naked eye, or even with phone photos. The fresh paint will eventually contain weathering, which is intentional throughout the attraction’s design. Tower of Terror has continued operating throughout the refurbishment, and Disney has not indicated any change to attraction operations as the work continues.

Story So Far

  • Scaffolding began climbing the southeast facade of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, anchored around a balustrade, arched windows, and decorative tile work
  • Scaffolding has now expanded to a new section of the building’s left side, visible from the Villains: Unfairly Ever After courtyard
  • Repainting has been spotted on the building’s right side
