UPDATE: Tower of Terror Voice Actor Explains Imagineering Visit

Mark Silverman, the voice of Rod Serling at Tower of Terror, has explained his recent visit to Walt Disney Imagineering. In a comment on our Instagram post about the visit, Silverman wrote, “Sorry to give such a boring story, but I was at Imagineering buying a T-shirt in the Imagineering store.” That seemingly settles speculation about the possibility of new narration at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The exterior refresh of the hotel continues, and Silverman’s voice still welcomes guests into the fifth dimension inside the rundown hotel.

  • Mark Silverman says his Imagineering visit was a trip to the Imagineering store for a T-shirt
  • Disney has not announced any narration or show changes for Tower of Terror
  • The Hollywood Tower Hotel exterior refresh continues while the ride stays open

Over the weekend, we asked whether changes could be coming to Tower of Terror after Silverman’s Imagineering post. When a fan asked whether they would hear something new from him at Disney, he answered, “wellโ€ฆ could be.” That playful reply had us wondering about fresh dialogue in the library pre-show or the ride itself. Silverman has now provided clarification, saying he was only at Imagineering for some shopping.

As previously noted, Disney had not announced any changes to the attraction’s narration or show scenes, so the ride experience stays the same for now. That is hardly bad news. Silverman’s narration has set the mood at Tower of Terror since the ride opened on July 22nd, 1994. Tower of Terror remains a headliner attraction, even while much of Disney’s Hollywood Studios has changed around it. That’s not to say that Tower is completely stagnant.

Hollywood Tower Hotel Exterior Refresh Continues

The visible work at Tower of Terror this year has focused on the outside of the building. Scaffolding first climbed the southeast side in July, and by August it had spread to the front of the tower below the Hollywood Tower Hotel sign. Earlier this month, we got our first look at the refreshed exterior, where scenic painters had re-aged the pink stucco, teal shutters, and rust streaks by hand. Most recently, Disney appears to be painting vibrant purple lightning scars, bringing back the opening-day look for the lightning-scarred facade.

Scaffolding still wraps the upper levels around the sign, and Tower of Terror has stayed open throughout the work. The finished sections look fantastic. Painted cracks, verdigris, and rust streaks keep the hotel frozen in its 1939 decay, exactly as the story requires. That same attention to detail brought back lightning scorch marks back to the lobby elevators for the ride’s 30th anniversary in 2024. Disney has not shared a completion date for the exterior work.
