Push-Pull Testing Begins on Shanghai Disneyland’s Spider-Man Coaster

Shanghai Disneyland’s Spider-Man roller coaster has started push-pull testing, with a ride vehicle moving through the attraction at just one centimeter per second. Disney shared two images of the test vehicle on the track during the testing. The images also show reach envelope devices, which check clearance between the vehicle and ride theming elements. Spider-Man Coaster Push-Pull Testing at Shanghai Disneyland

Walt Disney Imagineering described the work in a social media post caption. WDI wrote, “Before guests ever board, Imagineers perform push-pull testing at Shanghai Disneyland’s brand-new Spider-Man-themed land, slowly moving a ride vehicle through the attraction at just one centimeter per second.” The caption calls it “one of the slowest parts of the project,” and adds that “every centimeter brings us one step closer to the next milestone.”

Shanghai Disney Resort posted its own caption with the same images. The resort wrote, “A high-speed adventure with Spider-Man starts with an ultra-slow test,” and labeled the work “WEB test vehicles: Ultra-slow testing ON.” It closed by telling fans, “Stand by while we spin the web to FULL SPEED!”

This vehicle work follows Shanghai Disney’s June announcement that track installation was complete.

Both images show three oval wood-and-metal rings mounted upright across the ride vehicles. Each ring is lined with radiating flexible plastic “fingers” along its edge. The ride vehicle itself features molded gray seats and white and red body panels. Mesh safety netting stretches under the track, and the spires of Enchanted Storybook Castle rise through the trees in the background.

The captions with these images do not mention an opening date. We reported in April that the coaster is believed to open in the second half of 2027. Its W.E.B. name also echoes lettering on a support column we spotted in June that appears to spell “W.E.B. L4UNCH//R,” though Disney has not confirmed that as the ride’s official name.

Disney gave the land a full introduction at D23 in August, calling it the first Disney Parks land dedicated entirely to Spider-Man. The land is home to a new Shanghai division of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or W.E.B. Tony Stark founded the organization, and fans are already familiar with it from Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure and Disney Adventure World. In the story, Peter Parker and his friends have built a set of Spider-Bots to help assemble their experiments and construct the coaster itself.

Concept art shown at D23 depicts one of those Spider-Bots grown to towering, antagonistic size, glowing-eyed and tangled in webbing among torn shipping containers marked with Stark Industries and W.E.B. branding. Spider-Man battles the gigantic Spider-Bot from a collapsed platform nearby. Disney also said its Imagineers are collaborating with local artists on more than 20 murals throughout the land, celebrating science, Spider-Man, and the Avengers. An early look at that mural work was on display in the Imagineering Pavilion at D23.
