Construction Resumes at Mysterious “Project Fedora” Site in Hollywood Studios

Construction is moving again at Project Fedora, next to the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. During a recent visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we saw fresh concrete, rebar, and formwork behind the rolling planter wall that has blocked the area since March. Disney has not announced what Project Fedora is, but we’re intrigued. Here’s the latest.

Project Fedora is the name attached to a fenced-off area beside the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, near Backlot Express. Work in the area began with rolling planters and removed overhead netting in March, and crews later cleared a large tree from the site. The planter wall still hides the plot from the walkway, but the ground behind it looks very different now.

Concrete and Rebar Take Shape

When we last checked in, the site was a cleared dirt plot marked with wooden stakes and survey flags. Photos from our recent visit show large mounds of freshly dug soil. Several excavations now cut through the plot, and yellow caution tape surrounds some of the open areas.

In the foreground, a poured concrete pad sits inside a wooden form, with a steel plate and anchor bolts set into the top. Hardware like that typically secures something to the concrete, though we can’t tell yet what crews will mount there. Nearby, a narrow trench resembling a walkway has wooden forms along both sides and rebar laid across the bottom, which appears to be in preparation for another pour.

Rebar mesh also sits near a set of steps on the far side of the site. Beside it stand what appear to be black concrete forming panels. A lighting rig for overnight work sits at the left edge of the plot. All of it adds up to the most visible progress at Project Fedora in some time.

Permits and Timing for Project Fedora

The new work follows paperwork that Disney filed with Orange County months ago. Disney filed two Notices of Commencement on May 15th for general construction at 253 Cypress Dr, the address tied to the plot. One lists Slalom Construction Services, Inc. as the contractor, and the other lists Artistic Entertainment Services LLC. Artistic Entertainment Services LLC has installed set pieces on projects like Donald’s Dino-Bash and Woody’s Lunch Box, so themed elements are very likely part of the plan.

The start of the new fiscal year may explain why work has resumed. That timing is our best guess. The name “Project Fedora” could point to a connection with Indiana Jones, although Disney has not confirmed what the construction in this area is for.
