Disney has started enclosing the Monsters Inc. Door Vault coaster show building at Hollywood Studios, and crews continue installing roller coaster track inside. New aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct show both milestones. Black support columns and light-colored track stand out among the maze of rust-colored steel framing. Here’s the latest.

Work on the Door Vault coaster building is moving on two fronts at Hollywood Studios. Inside, we can see black support columns and track among the steel, while outside, blue walls now cover part of the building. These photos follow the September aerial photos that showed roof decking and steel framing across the site.

Roller Coaster Track and Support Columns Keep Coming

New black roller coaster support columns can be seen within the rust-colored steel that frames the building. Horizontal black supports connect the columns, awaiting the arrival of the track that will be hung from the crossbeams. Light-colored track sits among the black columns, and a couple of curved sections are the easiest pieces to spot from above.

Disney attached the first piece of track to the support structure in June, and while installation has slowly continued since then, there is still a lot of track left to install.

At the D23 Expo, Disney announced that most of Monstropolis will open in 2027, ahead of the coaster. The coaster has no announced opening date yet, but we expect a 2028 timeframe.

Load Area

The aerial photos also show the load area. These are the giant M-shaped pieces of steel that we spotted back in August. They will define the cavernous load area where a vertical lift system will pull riders into the air at the start of the experience before sending them through the door vault.

Blue Walls Begin Enclosing the Building

Blue walls now cover part of the building’s exterior, with a lighter blue section sitting above a darker one. Workers in a boom lift are visible along the new walls.

The shades of blue look similar to those on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind gravity building at EPCOT. This section faces backstage, so blue works here, while we expect the guest-facing side to get full Monsters Inc. theming.

It feels like enclosing the building right now is early for a coaster we expect in 2028. That said, Disney may need to finish enclosing the building before extensive theming work can begin.
