Good morning from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where the Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster installation has begun! The installation comes days after we spotted roller coaster support columns near EPCOT. Those columns are now being transported to the Monstropolis construction site. Here’s a closer look!
Monsters Inc. Roller Coaster Installation Begins at Hollywood Studios
As you can see in our photos below, the first roller coaster support columns have been installed at the Monsters Inc. land construction site. The support columns are for a brand new roller coaster themed to the door vault scene from the Monsters Inc. movie.
We’ll start with some previously released concept art showcasing the first-of-its-kind roller coaster for a Disney theme park. As you can see, guests will be in a suspended, seated position for this family-friendly roller coaster experience. The coaster will also feature a cool vertical lift system to kick off the ride experience.

Ok, back to our visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, where we spotted the first roller coaster support column installation. As you can see in our photos below, the roller coaster support columns are visible from the guest parking lot, looking across the Cast Member parking lot. As we await the inevitable, illuminating Bioreconstruct aerial photos, these photos from more than a half mile away will have to suffice!
These photos really highlight how Disney is expanding the Hollywood Studios footprint to bring Monstropolis to life. The entire roller coaster is being built in a chunk of Cast Member parking that was forfeited for the new ride. In fact, in this first photo, we can see new parking lot work to actually shrink some guest parking to allow for an expansion of Cast Member parking to make up for the lost space. More on that later.
