Photos: Work begins on Magic Kingdom parking lot entrance/World Drive expansion project

The expansive project to overhaul the Magic Kingdom tollbooth and parking lot entrance seems to be underway now. Work has begun on a southbound portion of World Drive near the It’s Tough to Be a Bug billboard. According to permits, this area will be one of four new drainage ponds. It will also be the area where southbound traffic from the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge resorts would join World Drive via a flyover.

As you can see, the first steps of the project is tree clearing.

The area in question is in the red box on the right side of the below permit.

This will be a multi-year project that will hopefully relieve some traffic during peak times.
