Relaxation of Social Distancing Slips to Mid-June for Florida According to IHME Model

As Disney fans look forward to the day that the theme parks reopen, a leading model has changed the date that it predicts a relaxing of social distancing would be possible. The IHME model at Healthdata.org now predicts that social distancing can be relaxed beginning June 14th, a slip from the June 1st date that was previously published.

According to the Healthdata.org, a relaxation of social distancing is defined as follows:

This refers to the timeframe when it may be possible to relax social distancing with containment strategies that include:

    • Testing
    • Contact tracing
    • Isolation
    • Limiting gathering size

The beginning of this timeframe is determined by our estimate of when COVID-19 infections drop below 1 per 1 million people in a given location, and is also influenced by each location’s available public health funding to implement new containment strategies.

Disney recently removed theme park hours through May 16th, and is still accepting reservations beginning June 1st.
