While the theme parks and resorts may be closed, that doesn’t mean that all Walt Disney World-related construction has come to a halt. As a matter of fact, there are still a few projects underway around property despite the work in the theme parks and resorts coming to a halt.
Thanks to a new aerial photo from friend of the site @bioreconstruct, we can see that new work is also taking place at Flamingo Crossings, a new retail space being built out by Disney just west of the Walt Disney World entrance. Keep in mind that while recently filed permits indicate construction on a bigger scale, we have observed actual groundbreaking on a planned Walgreens.
First, here’s a look at the map that shows the planned development in the area. The Walgreens is located on the southeast portion of a large lot that will eventually contain a “town center” of sorts.
Here’s a look back at one of our aerial photos taken back in mid-March. As you can see, no portion of the empty lot had any construction.
In the aerial photo from @bioreconstruct taken on May 4th, we can see that the land has been cleared for a Walgreens. We can just make out the land clearing on the far side of the lot, in the middle of the photo. Also pictured in the photo is the new Disney College Program housing in the background, and three new hotels in the foreground.
