California health officials have issued a statewide order that requires people to wear face masks when they are out in public.
A mandate from the state requires the use of face masks indoors and when social distancing isn’t possible in outdoor settings, according to the Washington Post.
“Science shows that face coverings and masks work,” Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement announcing the order. “They are critical to keeping those who are around you safe, keeping businesses open and restarting our economy.”
Newsom went on to speak about why he’s taking action now, and didn’t take action earlier. “Simply put, we are seeing too many people with faces uncovered, putting at risk the real progress we have made in fighting the disease. California’s strategy to restart the economy and get people back to work will only be successful if people act safely and follow health recommendations.”

While this doesn’t change the fact that the Disneyland Resort is already requiring the use of a face mask while on property, it bolsters the position of The Walt Disney Company to require face masks as part of its announced reopening plans for Disneyland.
The use of a face mask will also be required at Walt Disney World, but there are no statewide orders in Florida that require their use. Disney Springs has been open for nearly a month now, and guests have been required to wear masks.
