Bag Check Installed for Grand Floridian Walkway, Latest Look at Construction

With Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort now open to guests, we’re all awaiting the opening of the walkway that will finally allow access to the front gate of Magic Kingdom.

As you can see in the photos below, the walkway is all but completed. We’re told one of the crucial elements that still hasn’t been completed is the installation of pathway lighting. As you’ll notice in the photos, lighting has not been installed on the Grand Floridian side of the swing bridge. Here’s a look at the latest progress, working from Disney’s Grand Floridian towards Magic Kingdom.

In the photos below, you’ll notice two pathways. The one to the left is temporary as crews finish the work on the new Magic Kingdom dock. The inclusion of a temporary walkway implies that Disney isn’t waiting for the dock to be completed to open the Grand Floridian walkway.

Finally, Disney recently installed a metal detector, presumably for a bag check as guests arrive at the temporary entrance located at the monorail platform.

Disney has not announced an opening date for the walkway.
