Even though all nighttime fireworks and spectaculars are not running right now due to physical distancing constraints, Disney is continuing the construction of the new set pieces for HarmonioUS at EPCOT.
“Harmonious” will bring to World Showcase Lagoon an innovative toolkit of massive floating set pieces that house a variety of show effects, including custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, colorful lights, lasers, pyrotechnics and more.
The collective of the barges is referred to as the “compass”, with the center having a “great gravity screen” that is surrounded by four other barges that have giant LED screens as seen in the concept art below.
The show promises to be a beautifully crafted nighttime dreamscape of Disney music and images, reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world. It’s a transformative experience, where we can discover how Disney music has the power to inspire and unite us all. You can catch an early glimpse of concepts for the show now by visiting Walt Disney Imagineering Presents the Epcot Experience, located in the Odyssey Events Pavilion.
Harmonious will debut October 1, 2021 at EPCOT.
Today, friend of the site @bioreconstruct took to the skies over Walt Disney World to provide an over-the-fence look at the work taking place backstage as Disney prepares the HarmonioUS barges.
In this overview photo, we can see seven barges that will be utilized in the show.
A closer look at some of the barges reveals the circular arm that will bring storytelling elements of the show to life via an impressive lighting display.
Finally, here’s a barge that still requires a bit more work before the show debuts.
HarmonioUS was originally scheduled to debut this past Spring at EPCOT, but the COVID-19 closures has delayed Disney’s plans. At this point, it’s unclear when the show might debut. A temporary show, EPCOT Forever, was playing in the meantime until the parks shut down in mid-March.
