All Harmonious Barges Removed from World Showcase Lagoon in EPCOT

It’s over. The end of an error. The final two “taco” barges have been removed from World Showcase Lagoon, signaling the end of Harmonious at EPCOT. Harmonious was originally designed to be a long-term replacement for Illuminations, but the unsightly hardware for the show proved to be its downfall.

Originally, there were plans to make the hardware mobile, only rolling it out to World Showcase Lagoon in the evenings, preserving the daytime serenity of World Showcase Lagoon. Ultimately, that proved to be difficult and Disney opted for a more permanent installation and a bandaid of daytime fountains.

The daytime fountains proved impossible to implement on a daily basis, so Disney implemented graphics that resembled water and the 50th Anniversary logo. Despite what we thought was a wonderful show, Disney decided to tie the long-term investment of Harmonious to the limited-time 50th Anniversary celebration, ending the show this Spring.

Since then, we’ve been keeping an eye on World Showcase Lagoon and watching the removal of the hardware consisting of “taco” barges and the large centerpiece ring. Overnight last night, Disney removed the final two “taco” barges. Here’s a look!

Here’s a look at some of the World Showcase Lagoon views that were previously blocked by the hardware.

Crews are working on bringing a new nighttime fireworks show to EPCOT later this year. More on that in a bit!

    1. I was not able to see this show in person. Though the lagoon looks so much better without barges.
