Jock Lindsey’s “Holiday” Bar Review 2020 – A Deliciously Disappointing End to the Year

The holidays are back at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar “Holiday” Bar, and we stopped by recently to check out this year’s lineup of offerings. For a look back at the 2019 offerings, check out our full review.

    Grandma’s Favorite Sliders – $14

We’ll start with Grandma’s Favorite Sliders. These are venison sliders with a cranberry bacon jam, tomato, and watercress. I feel like the sliders are a perfect representation of this years offerings – delicious, but no holiday charm.

Historically, Jock Lindsey’s has done sliders really well and this is a continuation of that praise. That said, what is “holiday” about this? The cranberry on top? When compared to last year’s offerings like Ugly “Sweeter” Bread or the Holiday Caprese Wreath, sliders just don’t compare. That said, they are delicious.

    Papa Noel’s Churrasco – $14

Next up is Papa Noel’s Churrasco. Again, what is “holiday” about this presentation? On the board we have grilled flank steak with pumpkin seed chimichurri, fried sweet plantains, and spicy aji amarillo peanut sauce. Any other time of year and this is a top contender dish at Disney Springs. The flank steak was cooked to perfection and I can’t say enough positive things about the spicy aji amarillo peanut sauce. That said, this is a “holiday” offering with none of the care in presentation that would designate it as such.

Milk and Cookies by the Fireside – $25

If you thought things were going poorly so far, let me introduce you to a $25 milk and cookies plate (beer not included, provided for scale).

On this plate, you’ll find Chocolate Peppermint Gingerbread Men, Spiced Sugar Christmas Tree Cookie, and Butter Pecan Signature Cookie. In the middle, the “milk” is coquito with Malibu Rum. Finally we find ourselves in front of a “holiday” plate and it’s probably $5-8 overpriced.

Here are a few more photos so I got my money’s worth. All of the cookies were probably “fine”, but nothing outstanding. If 6 cookies were to normally set you back $10 at Disney, charging $15 for the coquito that contains half of the portion of a normal beer is probably excessive. At least the coquito was tasty, just not $25 for the whole plate tasty.

    C9 Light Deviled Eggs – $12

Making their return from 2019 are the C9 Light deviled eggs. Bringing these back is a smart choice by Disney has they are delicious. Here’s the 2019 setup versus the 2020 presentation.

    2019 version
    2020 version

As you can see, the shrimp have gotten larger in the past year, but thankfully the $12 price tag remains the same. This is a good buy. Let’s try some drinks.

    Cranberry Kringle – $9.25

From Orange Blossom Brewing we have the Cranberry Kringle. This is a pretty good beer with a noticeable cranberry presence. We actually ended up ordering another round of just the Cranberry Kringle after the initial “blogging” round of drinks.

    Mistletoe Mule – $14

Next up is the Mistletoe Mule. A take on the classic moscow mule, this Mistletoe Mule has Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Lime juice, Passion Fruit, topped with Ginger Beer. The passion fruit makes this stand out above a normal Disney mule, but might not present enough flavor to make this a truly “must get”. So far, stick with the Cranberry Kringle.

    Berry Merry Margarita – $16

Again we find ourselves looking at an incremental improvement over a “standard” margarita. In the Berry Merry Margarita you’ll find Patron Silver Tequila, Cointreau, Red Cranberry Juice, and Lemon Juice. The cranberry is definitely present, but never overbearing. Perhaps the best part is the green holiday rim that makes a return from 2019, although the rest of the drink (name included) is different this year.

    Jock’s Holiday Nog – $14

Finally, we find ourselves staring at the Jock’s Holiday Nog. This is a returning 2019 favorite (and it actually goes back to 2018).

There are some differences in the 2020 version versus last year, most notably the red holiday rim. Last year there was no rim, but there were crushed peppermint candies floating on top that would have really made this quite the festive drink if it was included in the 2020 version. As it stands, this is still a wonderful option that would bump the Cranberry Kringle off of the top spot in the drink category of holiday offerings.

Overall, the 2020 “Holiday” bar is a disappointment over the 2019 version. We didn’t see the fun creativity in presentation that we saw last year, leading us to wonder what, if anything, was “holiday” in some of the dishes beyond the name. While we said that Jock Lindsey’s “Holiday” Bar was a wonderful spot for locals and those who had “been there and done that” at Disney World, we really can’t give it a recommendation this year.
