Will the Tomorrowland PeopleMover Reopen in January 2021?

With news about an assortment of new refurbishments such as Kali River Rapids in early 2021 and the extension of the Rivers of America refurbishment that will delay the return of the Liberty Square Riverboat, news on the Tomorrowland PeopleMover has been quiet since late October.

As of publish time, the Tomorrowland PeopleMover refurbishment is scheduled to end on January 9, 2021. That said, the ride doesn’t have any hours posted after that date either. As far as scheduling is concerned within the internal refurbishment and operations calendar, the Tomorrowland PeopleMover ceases to exist on January 10, 2021.

Now, it’s worth noting that Disney is paying attention to all of the other refurbishment calendars for attractions that have no reopening date. Perhaps the most notable in the “indefinitely closed” category is the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Internally, the refurbishment for the Walt Disney World Railroad is scheduled to end on February 13, 2021. That said, don’t expect the railroad to reopen in February 2021, Disney is simply extending the refurbishment for the railroad “indefinitely” by keeping up with the end of the park hours calendar.

Going back to the PeopleMover, Disney was extending the PeopleMover refurbishment one week at a time until late October when they stopped doing so. The PeopleMover has had a January 9, 2021 refurbishment end date since then.

So, what will happen to the Tomorrowland PeopleMover on January 10, 2021? In short, it’s anyone’s guess. The Tomorrowland PeopleMover has been plagued with issues, even before the theme parks closed for the pandemic back in March. As you may recall, the PeopleMover was closed, or rather operationally limping, into the mid-March park closures.

At this point, the latest information that BlogMickey.com has is that Disney is trying to replace all of the magnetic linear induction motors along the 5400′ track. From what we can see, there hasn’t been a lot of movement on that front since the parks reopened in July, but it’s possible that Disney is doing the work quietly.

We are no closer to knowing a reopening date for the Tomorrowland PeopleMover and Disney hasn’t provided any clarity on the situation beyond a generic “currently closed for refurbishment” message on their website.

Here’s how Disney describes the attraction:
