During a JP Morgan Technology conference this afternoon Disney CEO touched on a number of topics related to The Walt Disney Company. One topic that he offered more details on than he has in the past is how Disney will raise capacity at the theme parks.
Timeline
While Chapek noted that Disney wants to see a return to normal in their theme parks as soon as possible, he offered the caveat that it must be done safely and responsibly. While he said that Disney is encouraged by recent CDC guidelines, Chapek noted that the consumer likely won’t start to see some of the real benefits of relaxed guidelines until the July to September timeline, possibly even waiting until closer to the close of Disney’s fiscal year in late September.
Capacity Increases
In terms of how much capacity will increase, Chapek didn’t give an exact figure like he has in the past. This is likely because it will be an ever-changing figure. Chapek said that consumers can look for a “low double-digit” increases in capacity over the next few months.
This means that we won’t see a massive jump from, say, 40% to 75% overnight, but that Disney will continue a gradual increase in capacity.
Disney Park Pass System
As we wrote earlier, Chapek said that the Disney Park Pass system is one of the offerings that will stick around in a post-pandemic environment. For more, check out our article below.
