A record 58,013 COVID-19 cases were tallied yesterday in the State of Florida, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This builds upon the previous single-day record of 52,995 (adjusted up by the CDC from 46,923).
The 7-day moving average now sits at 36,402 cases, nearly 15,000 cases (per day) higher than the 7-day rolling average during the peak of the Delta surge in mid-August.
COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise at a rate higher than the Delta surge over the summer. More than 4,000 people are now hospitalized. At the peak of the Delta surge over the summer, 17,121 hospitalizations were recorded.
Walt Disney World has not announced any response to the massive surge in COVID-19 cases, and in fact, plans on hosting multiple New Year’s Eve dance parties and special fireworks.
