‘Project Birdseed’ Update from EPCOT

With a much clearer vision of what the “spine” of EPCOT will look like, we decided to take a lap on the monorail to grab some updated photos of the work taking place. First up is Moana – Journey of Water!

As a refresher, here’s a look at the latest concept art for the walk-through attraction coming to the World Nature neighborhood.

When completed, Moana – Journey of Water will showcase the water cycle and its importance to life on earth. The edutainment trail will use Moana as an IP to allow guests to befriend water like Moana did in her movie.

Ok, so let’s take a look at the latest work taking place. We’ll start with a look at what is likely the codename for the project – Birdseed. This was first noticed by friend of the site bioreconstruct and can be found on the structure where workers signed their names.

Why “birdseed”? We assume that it is in reference to Moana’s sidekick avian friend Hei Hei.

Zooming out, we can see a lot of progress on “chip” installation around various points of interest at the site. A “chip” is a pre-fabricated piece of theming that acts as a single puzzle piece when constructing rockwork. Disney essentially has smaller pieces, or chips, made off site and plugged into the rockwork framework on the day of installation as a way of saving time and ensuring precision.

The foreground rockwork seen below is new since our last update.

Here’s a closer look at the mesh rebar framing that will eventually receive concrete and theming to create a realistic piece of rock.

Even more rockwork is seen towards the southern end of the construction site.

As we continue to make our way past the site from south to north, here’s another angle of some of the “oldest” rockwork that now appears to have some privacy shades.

Looking across the site to the east, we can see the tallest structure with the Birdseed codename on it.

Another structure is awaiting framing for rockwork, but has a dizzying amount of conduit installed already.

Finally, we’ll take a look at what will likely be a backstage support building and possibly holding tank for all of the water required to bring Journey of Water to life. The building in question hasn’t exactly gone vertical yet, but we can see it in the site plan below to the north of the Journey of Water site and to the west of Spaceship Earth.

Here’s a look at the infrastructure work taking place.
