Return of Disney World Railroad Hits Milestone at TRON Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom

The return of the Walt Disney World Railroad. It’s been years since guests have been able to take a grand circle tour around Magic Kingdom and the lengthy TRON Lightcycle Run construction timeframe is to blame. In mid-December 2018, Disney removed the railroad tracks that used to run along a quiet walkway between Tomorrowland and Storybook Circus.

This quaint walkway has seen a lot of change over the years, but a recent change marks a significant milestone for the return of the Walt Disney World Railroad. Last night, we took a ride on the PeopleMover to get the best possible look inside a tunnel that runs underneath the TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster. As you can see in our photos below, railroad track has been laid in the tunnel marking the first time that railroad track has returned to the site since mid-December 2018. Here’s a look!

Over the coming weeks, crews will continue to prepare other portions of the site for the installation of track for a likely return of the Walt Disney World Railroad later this year. Disney World has not announced a return date for the Walt Disney World Railroad and they have not announced an opening date for TRON Lightcycle Run. Sources indicate that Disney wants both offerings open by the end of 2022.
