Main Street USA Train Station Refurbishment Drags On, Construction Walls Shift

|

While visiting Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed a change in construction walls at the Main Street USA Walt Disney World Railroad station. The walls that previously blocked the west staircase have moved to the east staircase. As has been the case for a few months, the majority of the balcony is open to guests, with just a side staircase currently blocked.

Main Street USA Railroad Station Refurbishment Continues

As you may remember, Walt Disney World began a refurbishment of the Main Street USA railroad station at the start of the year. Work has occurred in phases over the past many months, with the railroad station remaining open to guests throughout. A couple of months ago, the majority of the work was completed, with only a side staircase blocked. Now, that work has shifted to the other staircase, and we made it out to Magic Kingdom this morning to take a look!

The top of the completed staircase appears to have some incorrectly colored tiles, but other than that, the work is complete.

Here’s a look around the top of the station.

Of course, the big news as it relates to the Walt Disney World Railroad is that it is currently running in “shuttle mode” between the Main Street Station, Fantasyland, and back. It’s likely that the railroad will continue this modified route for the next few years as Disney uses the northwest corner of Magic Kingdom to bring heavy machinery and materials into the park for the construction of Piston Peak National Park and, eventually, Villains Land.

In fact, Disney even ripped up portions of the Walt Disney World Railroad track between Frontierland and an area north of the Haunted Mansion as they continue land clearing in the area. It is expected that the full railroad route will return in the future.
