New Zootopia Movie Confirmed, DINOSAUR Retheme More Likely at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

During yesterday’s earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that another Zootopia movie is in the works – confirming an article that we wrote back in 2019. Disney seems to be leaning into the possibility of a Zootopia trilogy, increasing the chances that the previously announced Blue Sky plans of bringing Zootopia to Disney’s Animal Kingdom are more likely. As a refresher, here’s a look at concept art for a DinoLand USA retheme released at the 2022 D23 Expo.

In the concept art, we can see the Zootopia skyline at the top of the image. In our breakdown of the concept art, it looks like Disney plans on retheming the current DINOSAUR attraction into a Zootopia-themed attraction.

Disney is currently putting the finishing touches on the Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland, including a police-chase attraction that will likely utilize a trackless ride system. Of course, the ride system at DINOSAUR is not trackless, but it is a chase-style attraction that could be rethemed to fit the concept art above. The announcement that Disney plans on releasing another Zootopia movie can only improve the chances that the concept released at D23 Expo actually comes to fruition. It’s possible, likely, even, that Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro finalizes the Blue Sky concept of a DinoLand USA retheme later this year at the Destination D23 event at Disney World.
