Disney World Suspends Maleficent Fire-Breathing Effect in Festival of Fantasy Parade

In response to the Fantasmic fire last night at Disneyland where the Maleficent dragon was engulfed in flames, Disney World has suspended a similar fire-breathing effect in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom. Disney did not return a request for comment from BlogMickey.com, but Scott Gustin has reported that the fire-breathing effect will be the only suspension at Walt Disney World. Disney World’s version of Fantasmic utilizes a different pyrotechnic effect and will not be officially suspended, although it hasn’t been working perfectly in recent weeks.

The fire-breathing effect, which has actually malfunctioned before, will be deactivated on a temporary basis as Disney investigates the cause of the Disneyland fire. Here’s a look at when the Maleficent float caught fire, which was separate from the Disneyland Fantasmic fire that took place last night.

    1. In video, you can see hydraulic fluid leaking all over the dragon for about a minute before it caught fire. Just make sure the hoses work!
