After a strong stretch of two shows per night during most weeks in the first half of the year, Fantasmic! is down to just one show per night with Memorial Day Weekend now behind us. Currently, there is only one show per night on the books through mid-August, with showtimes oscillating between 9pm and 9:15pm through early August.

Typically, a second show is used to spread crowds out and not put too much pressure on the 6900-seat theater. A second show would also typically take place at or after park close, taking some pressure off of transportation and easing crowds trying to leave the park at the end of the evening.

An updated version of Fantasmic! with new scenes debuted November 3, 2022 and has been a popular option for guests in a theme park with no nightly fireworks show. Disney World used to present a Star Wars-themed firework show called Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, but has not brought the show back since the theme parks closed for COVID-19 in March 2020. Even then, the show was considerably scaled back after Disney abandoned a fireworks launch site that was moved across World Drive with the construction of Toy Story Land.

The lack of a second showtime for Fantasmic at this point could be another data point indicating that Disney World will have a “slow” summer. Through the first five months of 2023, posted wait times are down roughly 9% compared to the same timeframe in 2022. Notably, wait times were 20% lower in May 2023 than they were in May 2022. Over on the west coast, an inferno engulfed the Maleficent dragon during a malfunction that has caused Disneyland to cancel all performances of Fantasmic through the summer.
