Ahead of its May 24th return, Disneyland has shared new images of Fantasmic!, which has been on hiatus since the Maleficent dragon was engulfed in flames more than a year ago. When it returns, Fantasmic! won’t feature a fire-breathing dragon. Instead, Maleficent will be found in human form, rising 35 feet into the air with updated special effects.
Here’s the announcement from Disneyland, along with photos from a recent overnight test:
“Fantasmic!,” Disney’s longest-running nighttime spectacular, returns to the Rivers of America in Disneyland Park on May 24, 2024.
“Fantasmic!” will return with refreshed moments in the iconic show that features live performances, special effects and innovative technology to take Guests on a journey through Mickey Mouse’s imagination, filled with fantastic events and images as seen in some of our most beloved Disney classic films such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Peter Pan” and “Tangled.”
The popular production will introduce a new climactic battle sequence between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent, brought to life with updated special effects, plus the return of the thrilling shipboard confrontation between Peter Pan and Captain Hook from “Peter Pan.”
Guests can view “Fantasmic!” in select standby viewing areas along Rivers of America and may begin queuing no earlier than two hours before showtime.
