At today’s Central Florida Tourism Oversight District meeting, General Counsel Daniel Langley proposed a closed-door meeting in July to discuss the ongoing state and federal lawsuits between the District and Walt Disney World.
To recap, there are two lawsuits outstanding, one in state court and one in federal court. In the federal court case, Disney World is suing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors, claiming that DeSantis and lawmakers illegally retaliated against Disney after Disney spoke out against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In the state case, the CFTOD is suing Disney, asking a judge to rule that a Development Agreement be null and void following alleged infirmities when the contract was drawn up by the former Reedy Creek Board.
According to the CFTOD website, the next Board of Supervisors meeting is set for July 26th. However, there will be a significant development before the next Board meeting when Judge Margaret H. Schreiber will hear Disney’s Motion to Dismiss the state-level lawsuit on July 14th.
In the federal case, Judge Allen Winsor has established a timeline that wouldn’t have Disney or DeSantis’ lawyers in a courtroom until August at the earliest.
Langley said that “it’s a good time to have a closed-door meeting to have discussions and elicit input from the board, and seek your guidance and discuss litigation strategy and expenditures”. Langley suggested that the closed-door meeting take place at the July meeting or sometime before or after the meeting. None of the Board members objected to the meeting.
