DeSantis’ Oversight District to Discuss New Administrator & Lawsuit “Settlement Negotiations” in Upcoming Meeting

The remaining members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors will hold a scheduled meeting this week, and settlement negotiations are on the table for the second month in a row.

According to an agenda posted by the District, there will be a closed-door session at the end of the meeting where Board Members will meet with District counsel to “discuss strategy and settlement negotiations related to litigation expenditures” in the three lawsuits that they are entangled in with Disney.

Board Members in attendance will be Vice-Chair Charbel Barakat, Brian Aungst Jr., Ron Peri, and Bridget Ziegler. As we have previously reported, Martin Garcia has left his position as Chair of the District Board of Supervisors.

Also in attendance will be the District Administrator (unnamed in the agenda), and counsel for the District. As you may remember, Glen Gilzean has said that he will leave his $400,000 position at the District for a $205,000 position as Orange County Supervisor of Elections, but that he has been double-dipping and working both positions.

On the agenda is the “Board Consideration of Request from Stephanie Kopelousos to serve as District Administrator”. As you may remember, Kopelousos’ name was first thrown out by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ office. Kopelousos previously served as an advisor to DeSantis’ failed Presidential campaign.

What’s interesting is that while DeSantis does pick the members of the Board of Supervisors, he does not pick the District Administrator. Instead, it’s up to the Board to select an Administrator. Of course, the fact that the DeSantis administration considered Kopelousos’ appointment by the Board a done deal weeks ago would show just how much control DeSantis has over this Board and its members. The DeSantis administration doesn’t expect any friction with Kopelousos, and the rubber-stamp Board for the CFTOD will likely not provide any.

The Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, March 27th at 9:30am.
