The website for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has been updated to reflect the departure of former Board Chairman Martin Garcia. The Board of Supervisors webpage now lists the position as “Open”.
Here’s the current lineup for the Board of Supervisors and the expiration dates for their terms:
- Open – Chair | Term Expires 2/26/27
- Charbel Barakat – Vice Chair | Term Expires 2/26/27
- Brian Aungst, Jr. | Term Expires 2/26/27
- Ron Peri | Term Expires 2/26/25
- Bridget Ziegler | Term Expires 2/26/25
In recently filed documents in lawsuits in which Garcia is named, he acknowledges that he ended the term as Chairman in early March. One declaration by Garcia lists March 6th as his departure date, and another declaration lists March 8th as his final date. It’s unclear which date he actually left, and which of his declarations is incorrect.
BlogMickey.com has reached out to the District for clarification but has not received a response.
Additionally, while Glen Gilzean has previously stated that he is going to depart the role of District Administrator, the recent website update has not changed his status. The District has not responded to multiple requests from BlogMickey.com about Gilzean’s status.
The turnover comes at a time when the District is trying to prevent Disney from being able to carry out depositions of the current and former Board of Supervisors in multiple lawsuits that will continue into the summer, at a minimum.
Garcia and Gilzean join a list of dozens and dozens of employees that have left the District since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis assumed control of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District back in February 2023.
