An appeals court has ruled in Disney’s favor, granting a two-month delay for required opening briefs in the appeal of a January 2024 ruling where Disney’s Free Speech lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was dismissed.
The federal Free Speech lawsuit is the last of three remaining in the battle between Disney and DeSantis. Two other lawsuits have been voluntarily dismissed by Disney and DeSantis’ Central Florida Tourism Oversight District as a result of a “win-win” settlement. As part of the settlement, Disney agreed to pause the appeals process for the Free Speech appeal as Disney and the District work together on a new comprehensive plan for the Disney World area.
The District and Disney have agreed to roll back a comprehensive plan to an earlier version that was put in place before DeSantis’ Board of Supervisors took the role. A new plan is required, but both the District and Disney will work together as part of the settlement agreement.
