Walt Disney Imagineering Begins Early Phases of Affordable Housing Project Near Disney World

This week, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a rezoning request for the development of their affordable housing project near Walt Disney World. As previously announced, Disney World is going to offer 78.67 acres of land for a new affordable and attainable housing development. While groundbreaking on the project is currently scheduled for 2024, Imagineering is working on the early phases of zoning now.

According to documents reviewed by BlogMickey.com, Imagineering is seeking to zone 114.23 acres as a Planned Development in order to construct an attainable housing community in Horizon West Village H Apartment Land Use District. While details are still slim, the development plan calls for a maximum building height of 5 stories (65′) and a minimum living area of 500 square feet. Actual living area dimensions for the housing were not released.

The project will create up to 1,450 multi-family apartments providing homes and amenities for individuals and families with incomes in the range of 50% – 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The affordable housing project is located to the west of SR429 and southeast of the Hartzog Rd/Avalon Rd intersection. In the Google Maps screenshot below, you can see where the plot of land will be – essentially across from the northern end of Disney’s massive solar farm installation on the west side of Walt Disney World property. Flamingo Crossings is to the south of the area depicted in the screenshot.

The affordable housing project is expected to open in 2026.
