UPDATE (11:30am): Disney World says that Monorail Yellow suffered a flat tire, leading to the evacuation.
Earlier today, Walt Disney World guests were evacuated from Monorail Yellow as it was traveling to EPCOT. According to Fox35 reporter Pattrik Perez, guests reported a “loud explosion” and then a flash of light before the monorail broke down.
A spokesperson for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District confirmed that there was a call for assistance with the guest evacuation around 9:15am this morning and that Orange County Fire Rescue was also involved in the evacuation which is now complete. Officials said that 71 guests were evacuated and that the evacuation took 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Photos from the incident posted to social media appear to show the monorail was stuck near the EPCOT parking lot plaza, traveling inbound to EPCOT.
No other information as to the cause of the breakdown was immediately available, but we will update this story should more information become available.
