Walt Disney World Monorail To Operate “Reverse” Route During Afternoons & Evenings at Magic Kingdom, Here’s Why

|

Walt Disney World has recently rolled out a new monorail operations procedure for the afternoons and evenings at Magic Kingdom. The Walt Disney World Express Monorail will operate a reverse route during afternoon and evening hours for the foreseeable future, traveling around the Seven Seas Lagoon in a clockwise direction. Here are the latest details and why Disney has implemented the change.

A recent change in the operations of the Walt Disney World monorails has piqued the interest of fans. Earlier this month, Walt Disney World rolled out new operational changes to run the monorails in a “reverse” route along the Express beam in the afternoons and evenings. The change went into effect recently, and it will continue on a daily basis for the foreseeable future.

As of publish time, the route change only applies to the Express Monorail between the Transportation & Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. The resort monorail loop and EPCOT monorail loops will continue to operate in their “normal” directions.

As to the reason for this change, it is our understanding that changing the direction that the Express Monorail travels will assist with closing procedures at the end of the evening. In short, it will allow Monorail Cast Members and third-shift crew to get the monorails off the Express beam and into the backstage maintenance area in a more efficient fashion.

The change means that guests traveling from Magic Kingdom to the TTC will experience a 1-minute longer journey along the clockwise direction versus the counterclockwise direction, but the trade-off is a reduction in downtime when a monorail is being taken off the Express beam at the end of the night. Overall, this should allow for improved operations of the Express monorails as the day winds down at Magic Kingdom.
