Unlike opening day yesterday, guests visiting EPCOT today didn’t have to join a Virtual Queue to experience Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana. The self-guided nature trail functions best as a no-pressure wandering experience, and that’s exactly what it was today. Disney did not activate the Virtual Queue at all and when we visited during the early afternoon today, there was zero wait to enter the nature trail.
A large queue was set up for anticipated standby needs, but it was not in use when we visited this afternoon.
The queue seen below is for the Moana meet and greet. There was no wait to enter Journey of Water.
Inside, crowds were mostly light and there was little to no wait for the interactive elements.
The most popular part of the walk-through experience remains the Te Fiti overlook in the “Lake” section.
In our opinion, the fact that standby was offered and there was no wait to enter Journey of Water is perfect. While likely necessary due to opening day crowds, a Virtual Queue for Journey of Water doesn’t set expectations where they should be for the experience. When Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has a Virtual Queue and it’s one of the best and most memorable rides at all of Walt Disney World, guests expect something similar from all Virtual Queue attractions.
Journey of Water is best when it is discovered – a place where guests wander in without expectation and find an area lush and beautiful that invites them to play.
