A new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering suggests that we’ll soon know what the mystery structure being built along Grand Avenue will be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The permit taps recent Imagineering favorite Kentavo for the project, listing “install signage” as the project description for an address that resolves to the mystery kiosk under construction along Grand Avenue.
The kiosk is listed as the “Grand Avenue Coke Kiosk” in a database of addresses managed by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly the Reedy Creek Improvement District). While the database is professionally managed, we aren’t ready to definitively say that the mystery structure will definitely be a Coke kiosk when it is completed. It’s possible that the location will serve drinks when the work is finished, but Disney World has not officially announced what the purpose of the kiosk is yet.
Kentavo has been utilized by Disney World over the past 18 months or so for various signs and graphics around the theme parks. Most recently, we saw a permit for the installation of signage near the future entrance to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but the only signage that has been installed in the area recently is themed posters.
Going back to the Grand Avenue kiosk, we were really hoping that the construction, which began back in June, would be for an expanded seating area for the popular BaseLine Tap House nearby, but it appears that the majority of the space behind the construction walls is simply to support the kiosk construction.
